A Unique music concert to celebrate women’s empowerment and promote budding talent

Celebrate women’s power in Indian classical music this week with a concert that features two doyens – Queen of Thumri, Begum Parveen Sultana and Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande – and an upcoming talent, Debopriya Chatterjee, at Nehru Centre on April 12.

Padma Bhushan, Begum Parveen Sultana learnt her music from Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri and has been performing for over five decades. She is universally recognised as one of the finest women voices in country.

Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande turned from the complexity of bio-chemistry (she holds a PhD in the subject) to exploring the complexities of various Ragas. A Sangeet Visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, she also holds a Masters’ degree in Indian Classical Music.

Debropriya Chatterjee, a disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, is the lead flautist in the all-girl classical music band Sakhi. She has already started making waves with her virtuoso performances.
