Third Lonavala International Film Festival India (LIFFI) 2018 all set to enthral film lovers

Starting today, the third  edition of  the Lonavala International Film Festival India (LIFFI) is all set to enthral film fans in the titular placid and pretty hill station in Maharashtra. The three-day festival opens with director Ananth Mahadevan's  Life Is Good , starring Jackie Shroff and Rajit Kapur.

Producer, writer, actor and curator of LIFFI 2018, Vivek Vaswani has put together a package  that includes Bimal Roy’s epic Sujata, Sridhar Rangayan’s Evening Shadows and Ananth Mahadevan's Doctor Rakhmabhai, a biopic on India's first lady doctor, social rebel and medical pioneer who paved the way for the fight against gender discrimination, and  Roughbook which takes a hard look at the education system in contemporary India.  Both films have Tannishtha Chatterjee as the principal character. Award-winning Marathi films like Nude and Kachcha Limboo  will also be screened at the festival which concludes on September 9.

As a tribute to the late Bimal Roy whose contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled, six of his widely acclaimed films will be showcased at LIFFI.  A short documentary on the ace director will also be screened on the occasion. This section has been curated by his daughter,the writer and documentary film-maker Rinki Roy Bhattacharya.

As a precursor to the festival, an exhibition of Bimal Roy’s film posters, stills, memorabilia, and artifacts was inaugurated on September 1 at the festival venue, the Triose Plaza. Books about Roy authored and/or edited by his daughter will be on sale at special prices.

Sixteen other films including Iqbal, Joggers Park, Kashmakash, The Genius – Ramanujan and The Stolen Princess, Ukraine's first ever English animation film, will also be screened (in English and Hindi) at Triose Plaza where experts will conduct three Master Classes, and steer Q & A sessions as well as number of interactive seminars and workshops for film enthusiasts and students from  reputed  media schools in Mumbai, Lonavala and Pune.
