A DECADE OF LAUGHTER

Silly Point Productions celebrates 10 years in theatre with witty, original comedies that have had audiences laughing for a decade. On June 3, they will hold the premiere show of  Laughter Therapy, with Mona Singh, of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, 3 Idiots and more, to step into the shoes of Dr Bombay, a therapist attempting to cure a Hindu, Muslim, Parsee and Christian as they battle anger.

Mona portrays seven characters on stage, from an Old Parsee aunty to a Goan lady, to a teenager and even a police officer. All the other four artists also have seven characters each. The 120-minute comedy features Mona Singh, Sajeel Parakh, Danesh Irani, Danesh Khambata and Siddharth Merchant.

Writer-director Meherzad Patel says: "When you write a play that has 35 characters portrayed by five actors, the challenge is to ensure that each character has enough buffer zone to switch roles. The audience knows that it is actually Mona Singh playing the part of psychologist, in turn playing the police officer. So the challenge is to write 35 contrasting characters so that Mona, the doctor and the police officer, all sounds and behave different, even though it's just one actor. That's the beauty of theatre."
